Level - Confident beginner / Intermediate

If you’re looking for an stress-free way to sew curves and would also like to dip your toe into improv quilt making, this is the class for you. During the day you’ll be shown several techniques for sewing free form curves - no templates, no marking - let’s just do it. It’s honestly much easier than you think! The blocks that you create can be combined together for a cushion or as the start of an exciting improv quilt or runner that you can complete at home. This is also a great skill builder class for you to play with and get more confident with colour. Students should be competent using a rotary cutter and a sewing machine - we’ll teach you the rest! Machine sewn.

Materials and equipment required:

  • Sewing Machine. A basic sewing machine is fine. Don’t forget the 1/4-in or standard straight sewing foot pedal, lead and instruction booklet. Alternatively you can hire a machine subject to availability (just add to your basket with your workshop booking)

  • Rotary equipment - mat (at least A3 in size) and rotary cutter with a sharp blade. No ruler needed - leave it at home!

  • Long or Fat quarters of at least 8 different fabrics. You can choose all plains, or plainish fabrics such as Linen Texture, Trigo, Twist or Grunge, batiks or more conventional prints in any colours. Note - if you are working with patterns, you will need contrasting solids to mix in with your patterns

  • 100% cotton thread in a coordinating colour to your fabric above or a neutral colour

  • Basic sewing kit - fabric / thread scissors, pins, stitch ripper

Refreshments will be provided during the day. There will be a break for lunch. You’re welcome to bring your own lunch, or there are a variety of coffee shops, tea rooms and delis in the high street.

It’s advisable to sort out your materials beforehand to make best use of the workshop time. However, if there’s anything you’re missing, you can buy supplies in store during the day.

If you have any questions, please phone us on 01634 838880 before booking. Please note we do not send out reminders to students before the workshop as all the materials information is here! For details of local car parks, please refer to the Visit Us page.
