Sometimes, simple is the most satisfying. Just 3 ingredients are used for this quilt and the results are stunning. The Flagstones Quilt was inspired by the many flagstones that can be found everywhere in Rochester. Join Alison on this workshop - have fun sewing with charm packs and increase your skills with ‘back art’ as you learn tricks and tips for using up every last scrap of fabric when making your quilt. This is an ideal skill builder technique for confident beginners. Your finished quilt shown here will be approximately 46 x 61in (117 x 155cm), a great size for a single bed quilt or lap quilt. Machine sewn.

Materials and equipment required:

• Sewing Machine. Don’t forget the 1/4-in or standard straight sewing foot, pedal, lead and instruction booklet. Alternatively you can hire a machine subject to availability (just add to your booking)

• Rotary equipment - mat (at least A3 in size), ruler (at least 12-in long) and rotary cutter with a sharp blade

• 2 charm packs (we suggest either using 2 identical packs or 2 different but complementary collections by the same designer)

• 2m of coordinating / contrasting textured print fabric such as Linen Texture, Cottage Cloth, Grunge, or a solid colour

• 2m of a second coordinating textured print or a solid colour

• 100% cotton thread in a coordinating colour or neutral

• Basic sewing kit - fabric / thread scissors, pins, stitch ripper

  To finish your quilt at home you’ll need

• 50 x 65in (125 x 165cm) of wadding and thread for quilting

Refreshments are provided with a break at lunchtime. You’re welcome to bring your own lunch, or there are many coffee shops, tea rooms and delis in the high street.

It’s advisable to sort out your materials beforehand to make best use of the workshop time. However, if there’s anything you’re missing, you can buy supplies in store during the day.
