NEW! Dorset Buttons
NEW! Dorset Buttons
Friday 12 October 1.30-4.30pm (3 hours)*
Tutor: Anne Martland
Level - Beginners
We love to bring you different crafts to try. Dorset Button making is a traditional craft, using woven thread-wrapping techniques to make tactile one-of-a-kind buttons. Obviously they can be used on a garment, but they also make great brooches, key rings, embellishments on cushions, and decorations for collage. Anne is a talented textile artist (look at her instagram Lavender Drift for more of her makes) and we’re delighted to welcome her to Hometown.
During the workshop, Anne will show you how to make a Cartwheel Button, which will set you up for exploring further designs. She’ll also give you a little history of the craft that dates back to the 17th century. Dorset Buttons are perfect for slowing down whilst enjoying the making process. Plus, they can be made from tiny amounts of thread, leftover from quilting and embroidery. The rings and needle are included as part of your course fee. Anne’s worksheets will enable you to make more at home.
PS - we regularly benchmark our workshop prices and have seen a similar class listed elsewhere for £50 - think of all the extra thread you could buy with the diference!
Suitable for all levels of stitcher, as long as you can thread a needle, Anne will teach you the rest. Hand made. *Another date will follow this autumn, so leave us your email, if you’d like to be the first to know the new date!
Materials and equipment required:
The rings and needle are supplied as part of your course fee
