Fabric Bowls Workshop
Fabric Bowls Workshop
Thursday 29 May 7.00-9.30pm
Tutor Marion Haslam
Level: All levels
Good to the last scrap! As a quiltmaker, Marion thinks that every piece of fabric has potential - but what to do which all the final strips and trimmings of fabric? Make a unique fabric coiled bowl! On this fun class Marion will show you how to turn unwanted scraps into fabulous fabric bowls that make useful containers for keys, treasures and one-of-a-kind presents for practically zero cost. Included in the cost of the workshop is the cotton cord for your basket. If you’d like to make further baskets, more cord will be available to buy.
This workshop is suitable for all levels. As long as you are a competent machine sewer, Marion will teach you the rest! Machine sewn.
Please bring to the class:
Sewing machine (or you can hire one subject to availability - just add to your basket if needed). You’ll need your standard zig zag foot. Don’t forget the foot pedal, spare bobbin, bobbin case, Jeans needle if you have one and instruction booklet etc. Put in a new Jeans or size 80/90 needle for this course - it needs to be sharp!
Thread to coordinate or contrast with the fabrics you’ll be using (variegated Gutermann Sulky thread can be particularly effective)
Small bag (max 1m) of fabric strings or jelly roll strips. If you want to precut a handful of fabric strips, they need to be 1-in x 18-in and quilting weight cottons. Mix and match colours or just bring a variety of patterns.
Rotary cutter, mat and 1 inch-wide ruler for cutting strips if needed (or just use large scissors)
Basic sewing kit containing - large fabric scissors, small scissors and a stitch ripper
Headed Pins
Fabric clips
Hometown will supply you with the cord for your bowl as part of the workshop fee.
Refreshments are provided during the workshop. You’re welcome to buy needles, threads, clip or additional fabrics instore during the workshop.
