Machine Quilted Tote Bag
Machine Quilted Tote Bag
Friday 21 November 10.30-4.30pm
Tutor: Mel Forrest
Level - Confident Beginners
If you’re looking for an easy-to-sew gift idea, or a project to show off a special fabric, this is the workshop for you. You’ll learn how to machine quilt your fabric and then turn it into a capacious, lined tote bag. This is a great skill-building class if you’re new to machine quilting, or for quilters who’d like to try a different style of project. These bags are super practical - for daily work stuff, files and laptops and as a strong shopping bag. They also make great presents! Students should be competent using their sewing machine - we’ll teach you the rest!
Materials and equipment required:
Sewing Machine. A basic sewing machine is fine. Don’t forget the 1/4-in or standard straight sewing foot pedal, lead and instruction booklet. Alternatively you can hire a machine and walking foot (subject to availability)
Walking foot (if you have one)
Rotary equipment (or we have some to borrow)
50cm of outer fabric
50cm of lining fabric
50cm of wadding
100% cotton thread in a coordinating colour
2m of heavy duty cotton webbing (we have plenty of options in-store)
Basic sewing kit - fabric / thread scissors, pins, stitch ripper
Tool for marking quilting lines (iron-away pens, hera markers or tailor's chalk are all fine) and an acrylic ruler if you have one
505 spray or curved quilting pins
It’s advisable to buy your fabrics before the class to make the best use of workshop time. However, if there is anything you’re missing, or for all the haberdashery, you can top up your supplies instore.
Refreshments will be provided.
