This course is perfect for stitchers wanting to learn new skills in our fun monthly sewing club. Using Debbie Shore’s best selling book ‘Half Yard Heaven’ as our course workbook, students will make a different project each month. Marina loves this book for its skill building techniques. This course is ideal for newbie stitchers who have attended our Sewing Machine class (or indeed anyone that wants a dedicated sewing time with like minded folk each month). Students should be able to use a sewing machine, attach thread, wind bobbins and sew a straight stitch with an even tension.

Over the four months, students will sew a patchwork pincushion, a fabric storage cube (ideal for crafty projects, or as a nursery tidy), quilted oven gloves and a zipped pouch. You’ll be using simple patchwork, appliqué, zips and bias binding. All your makes will be lovely hand made presents. Plus Marina also provides you with a bonus project to try each month! The book contains another 22 projects that you can work on during the afternoon or in your own time.

The course fee includes a copy of the latest edition of Debbie Shore’s book which you’ll be given at the first class. This contains 26 projects using small pieces of fabrics to create practical and beautiful items for your family and home.

If you would like to pay for this course in 2 instalments of £45, please book by phone or instore, not online.

Equipment and material needed for the classes:

  • Sewing machine. You should know how to thread it, wind the bobbin and straight stitch with an even tension. Remember the foot pedal, a straight sewing or 1⁄4in foot and other feet, spare bobbin, instruction booklet etc. If you’d like to travel light, you can book a machine, subject to availability

  • Basic sewing kit containing sharp fabric scissors, small scissors or clips, pencil, pins and a stitch ripper

  • Rotary equipment is useful, especially from month 2 - cutting board, rotary cutter and ruler

  • Month 1 - 2 contrasting fat quarters of fabric, thread to coordinate (or a neutral such as cream or grey), bag of toy stuffing (will be used again for a later project), 2 buttons, approx 10mm diameter

  • Month 2 (and so on) fabric requirements will be discussed at the first class, so you can plan ahead

It’s a good idea to purchase your fabrics before the course start, but items can be bought instore each month. All students receive Loyalty Card stamps on qualifying purchases and a discount when buying rotary cutting equipment.

Tea/ coffee is provided for you. If you want to make a full day of it, you’re welcome to bring your own lunch, or there are many coffee shops, tea rooms and delis in the high street.
