Come and spend a fun day with like-minded quilters, get stitching, possibly learn a new technique and do some good! At our recent quilt exhibition, many visitors were very impressed by Mavis’s contribution to the Linus Quilts charity - to date she has sewn 200+ quilts for them! This got us thinking - would you like to make one too? By happy coincidence, since then, we received a lovely donation of cotton quilting fabrics (many originally bought from Hometown) from quilter Gill who was having a destash. So, we are delighted to announce the first (of several we hope), stitching days.

During the day, Marion and Alison will show you how to make a version of a simple Lazy Gal patchwork quilt, using QAYG (quilt-as-you-go) techniques for a fun, fast finish. In the afternoon, Marion will also show you how to bind your quilt to give it a professional finish. Note: if you don’t complete the quilt in the day, it can be finished in your own time at home, then delivered back to the shop, so we can donate them en masse. Machine sewn.

Suitable for intermediate quilters, so we can crack on and have fun, whilst drinking endless cups of tea.

Materials and equipment required:

• Sewing Machine. A basic sewing machine is fine for this workshop. If you have a walking foot, this will be very useful. Alternatively you can hire a machine subject to availability (just add to your basket with your workshop booking).

• Spare machine needles and bobbins

• 100% cotton / sew all thread, preferably in a neutral colour, but bring any colours you have as I’m sure they can be used

• Basic sewing kit - fabric / thread scissors, pins, stitch ripper, hand sewing needle, quilting clips

• Rotary mat, cutter and ruler (we also have some you can borrow)

• Quilting Gloves* (optional) we have 2 sizes of these available instore

• Optional - any spare fat quarters, long quarters, odd jelly roll strips that you’d like to destash, so we can run a second stitching day

• Hometown will supply you free of charge, quilting cotton for the patchwork, quilt backing and binding. We will also donate the cost of providing you with eco recycled wadding for your quilt.

As stated above, we’ll supply the fabrics, we just ask you to supply the thread. However, if you have any spare fat quarters, long quarters, bigger fabrics that can be used for the backings, we’d gratefully receive them, so we can run a second quilting day in due course. Marion will also be going through her stash to top up supplies.

Refreshments will be provided during the day. There will be a break for lunch. You’re welcome to bring your own lunch, or there are a wide variety of coffee shops, tea rooms and delis and in the high street.
