At Hometown we love an unusual technique that produces an impressive quilt pattern. This tessellated quilt pattern is the perfect vehicle for using a charm pack / Sweet Treat. This is also a great skill builder class as you’ll get more confident working with colour and pattern. Students should be competent sewing accurate 1/4-in seams - we’ll teach you the rest! Machine sewn.

The technique can be sewn into a variety of sizes of quilt. Quantities shown here will create a quilt approximately 88 x 88cm (34 x 34in)

Materials and equipment required:

  • Sewing Machine. A basic sewing machine is fine. Don’t forget the 1/4-in or standard straight sewing foot pedal, lead and instruction booklet. Alternatively you can hire a machine subject to availability (just add to your your booking)

  • Rotary equipment - mat (at least A3 in size) and rotary cutter with a sharp blade and ruler

  • Either 2 Sweet Treats (please pre-cut into 48 5-in squares before the workshop)

  • Or, 1 charm pack, plus 2 additional fat quarters that coordinate

  • 1m of border fabric (needed at the beginning of the workshop)

  • 100% cotton thread in a coordinating colour to your fabric above or a neutral colour

  • Basic sewing kit - fabric / thread scissors, pins, fabric marking pen, or pencil, stitch ripper

To finish your quilt at home, you’ll need

  • 1m wadding and backing fabric

  • Thread for quilting

  • 30cm fabric for binding

Refreshments will be provided during the day. There will be a break for lunch. You’re welcome to bring your own lunch, or there are a variety of coffee shops, tea rooms and delis in the high street.

It’s advisable to sort out your materials beforehand to make best use of the workshop time. However, if there’s anything you’re missing, you can buy supplies in store during the day.
