Jelly in Bed
Jelly in Bed
Friday 7 August 10.30-4.30pm
Tutor: Marion Haslam
Level - Confident Beginners / Intermediate
We’re not suggesting eating jelly in bed, but we do recommend that you can use your finished quilt as either a bed runner or bed quilt! If you already have a Jelly Roll, but don’t know how to use it, come on this workshop. You’ll learn a speedy (and a little bit sneaky!) patchwork technique and there are two size options.
Jelly Rolls are 2-1/2-in wide strips in glorious coordinated collections. Because the fabrics are pre-cut, you’ll be able to speed ahead sewing the patchwork quilt top during the day. Don’t worry if you don’t get the quilt top completely pieced, as you’ll have the full instructions for finishing at home.
This workshop is an ideal skill builder for quilters as it’s a great introduction to working with Jelly Rolls and for honing your sewing accuracy. There are 2 size options. The half-jelly option makes an excellent bed / table runner or wall quilt Or, use the full Jelly Roll and sew the larger quilt.
Students should be competent using their sewing machine and be able to stitch an even seam allowance. You should already have made a quilt / know how to finish a quilt at home, as this workshop is how to piece the top only. Machine sewn.
Materials required:
Sewing machine. It’s a good habit to put in a new machine needle. Don’t forget the pedal, lead, 1⁄4-in foot, bobbins, instruction booklet etc. Or, hire one of our class machines, (subject to availability)
Rotary cutter, cutting board and 6-1/2-in or wider ruler (we also have a few spares for you to share)
6 x 6-in ruler (essential if your long ruler is narrow) or an Omnigrid 98L ruler

Quilters 1/4-in tape

Each strip is cut 2-1⁄2in x 42-in (selvedge-to-selvedge). Cut with a rotary cutter and ruler for accuracy and straightness. Fabrics should be in a variety of light/medium/dark tones and can be patterned, floral, batiks, novelties etc
