Learn to sew a classic reversible fabric bucket hat that can be used all year round to keep the sunshine or rain at bay. This is a fun way to use really wow fabrics for two different looks (or a more neutral outer with a zingy lining. There are a choice of two brim styles (narrow and wide) and three (adult) sizes of hat.

You are provided with the multi-size pattern, so you can sew further hats for all the family. (Do tag us in photos after the class with your hats on location)! This will give you a good introduction to using pattern pieces and constructing a three-dimensional item.

Suitable for students who are competent at using a sewing machine with a straight stitch and even tension. Machine sewn.

Materials and equipment required:

  • Sewing Machine. A basic sewing machine is fine. Don’t forget the 1/4-in or standard straight sewing foot pedal, spare bobbins, lead and instruction booklet. Alternatively you can hire a machine subject to availability (just add to your basket with your workshop booking)

  • Basic sewing kit - fabric scissors and paper scissors, pins, fabric clips, stitch ripper

  • 50cm of 112cm (or wider) cotton quilting weight fabric / light weight denim / linen / Kobe Twill for the outside. For ease avoid stripes or directional prints*

  • 50cm of 112cm (or wider) cotton quilting weight fabric for the lining

  • 25cm of G700 cotton iron-on or medium sew-in interfacing

  • Cotton thread to coordinate with your material

* Ask us to explain if unsure!

Refreshments are provided during the day with a break at lunchtime. You’re welcome to bring your own lunch, or there are many coffee shops, tea rooms and delis in the high street.
