2024 update - please read carefully as we’ve just made it easier to order waddings online!

Wadding is the jam in any quilt sandwich and we stock a wide variety. All waddings are used to provide warmth and quilting texture. At Hometown, we regularly hand and machine quilt with all our different waddings, so we know they’re good to stitch with and produce great results. The question that we’re asked most often is ‘what would you recommend for a child’s quilt?’. The honest answer is that no one wadding is ‘better’ than another, but our Bamboo Blend wadding is the most popular choice for children’s quilts because the bamboo content makes it naturally anti-bacterial and eco-friendly (plus it’s oh so soft!).

All our waddings can be quilted by hand or machine and all are washable. Plus we know our prices are really good. Just this month, we’ve seen the 90-in cotton wadding being sold in a well known shop for £17/m. At Hometown, it’s £12.60/m!

PLEASE NOTE: because of its bulk, if we’re posting wadding to you, we need to charge extra because of increased delivery costs. So add your choice of wadding to your baskets and if you want it posted, also add the delivery surcharge (£4.00) to your basket. This surcharge is in addition to the standard parcel charge of £3.75. Please note if you forget to add the surcharge, we will need to contact you for payment BEFORE we can despatch your order.

The following 3 waddings are all classified as 4oz weight and are suitable for bed or wall quilts as they have a soft feel when quilting and a good drape. These are made without bleaching, so have a natural cream appearance. Online, our wadding is priced and sold by the quarter metre (25cm), so you can order exactly the length you need. So for 1 metre, order a quantity of 4, for 1.5 metres (a good length for a baby quilt), order 6 and so on. They come in various widths , so you can choose the best size for your project.

Eco wadding: super soft and 70% recycled cotton and 30% recycled polyester. Natural cream colour. Soft

100% cotton - natural cream colour. Softer

Bamboo Blend: 50% bamboo fibre and 50% cotton - natural cream colour - softest

Plus we also have 2 specialist polyester waddings available online.

Insulating: 100% polyester fibre with a Mylar heat-resistant film layer - white. This is used for place mats, table runners, tea cosies and oven mitts as it retains the heat. In tea cosies and oven mitts, you can combine with another wadding for a more quilted effect. Not suitable for bed quilts.

Thermolam: 100% polyester - white - compressed wadding which looks like a thick felt. Great value and good for advent calendars, bags or wall quilts. Not recommended for bed quilts or sofa throws as it doesn’t drape like the natural wadding range.
